Chris Pankewich, our professor for the subject 'Design for Good', generously allowed us to pick a topic of our liking and create a digital solution around it.
My team picked climate change.
We were a team of 7 and I was the project lead. In this project, you will find me researching about climate change, finding its root cause and delivering a solution that can contribute to solving the problem.
Despite years of research and innovation, from solar energy to edible plastic, climate change continues to be a real threat. Why haven’t we been able to solve it despite all these efforts? We began our project with this very question.
We kicked off the project with secondary research. Early in the research we realized that carbon emission is one of the biggest causes of climate change. Hence, we decided to dig deeper.
According to a report by EPA, transportation is the biggest contributor to carbon emissions. And within that, 82% of the US carbon emissions are due to road transport. While electric power and industries were also a major cause, we wanted to address the biggest contributor - transportation.
We directed our research to find out the trends in fighting transport issues that lead to carbon emissions. Compact city planning, Personal contribution and Urban Farming emerged as the leading solutions.
